The National Football League begins to face the drama that is Michael Vick, who on Thursday returned to his home to finish the rest of his sentence for the damage he caused from federal dog fighting.

In a time where the nfl began to give more harsh punishments on athletes who damage the league’s reputation, including damaging their personal life-hood which ruins their talents.

Whether the league likes it or not, it is once again time to make a decision on a disciplinary issue, this time on Vick.

Has Vick learned his lesson? Has he matured according to Roger Goodell’sstandards?

Who knows how he has changed during his time behind bars. Vick has come out ans said he is going to be a much better person, a changed man.

However, doesn’t everybody say that?

It is two seasons now that Vick has not played football, a big disadvantage to him.

Yes, only two seasons, however much has changed.

On the offensive side of the ball, the wildcat offense has emerged around the league. There also seems to be much more balanced playbooks, and less quarterbacks getting any production if they try to run.

Currently a property of the Atlanta Falcons, Vick is hoping for one team to make an offer for the troubled quarterback, so he can get back on the field.

Surprisingly, multiple teams may have interest in trading for him, despite the baggage that comes with it.

Sure, it is a gamble that won’t be a big price to trade fo! r, but w hy bother?

Missing one season in the nfl due to injury or suspension is difficult enough.

But two seasons?

Michael Vick will have to show a great work ethic if he can get on back in the nfl.

His speed has probably decreased, and will have to learn a new system wherever he goes, that frankly it will be tough for him to find success as he did early in his career.

Is there anybody who is willing to take the quarterback, along with his baggage?

A notable fit for Vick would be a team such as the Dolphins, or somebody who would use him as their weapon for the wildcat offense.

News has also broke of the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders being the leading candidates for his services.

It is a bit of a surprise that the Pats do have interest in him.

Yet again, Belichick was able to control Randy Moss, and with Tom Brady coming off surgery, adding the wildcat to the offense.

The Oakland Raiders aren’t that big of a surprise of being interested in Vick, as they were named the leading team for him the day he received the suspension from the nfl.

How would he fit with the Oakland Raiders? With two quarterbacks in Russell and Garcia fighting for the starting job, along with McFadden who is their playmaker in the backfield.

A dark horse in all of this? The Seattle Seahawks make sense for Vick, who if still has the ability in him, can bring the new look to the offense, where there is questions about Michael Vick.

Even though there are many options that the Falcons may have, it is a mistake for any team to trade for Michael Vick.

Bringing in Vick will bring publicity wherever he goes. On the positive side that some franchises are thinking, a raise in revenue is more then likely, with spectators wanting to get a look at him on the field.

The negative? The Dog Lovers are coming to town.

Lets face it; in people’s minds, dogs are more important then people on the streets.

Rebellion is always waitin! g to hap pen, and with this occurring all over America, Vick will be followed, and can guarantee he will not be comfortable.

Don’t take this the wrong way; I do wish all the best for Michael Vick. I have nothing against him.

The odds don’t stack against him, however. And with where we are in this country, and experience how people are treated, Michael Vick playing in the nfl in the future is a trainwreck waiting to happen on one of these franchises.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Buffalo Bills fullback Corey McIntyre has been arrested in Florida on accusations he fondled himself outside a Port St. Lucie woman’s home.

The incident allegedly happened about two months ago, but the 29-year-old McIntyre was arrested Thursday and charged with exposing sexual organs.

A spokesman for the Port St. Lucie Police says a woman claimed the player knocked on her window during the act, then fled. Police later spotted him on a bicycle.

The charge is a misdemeanor and required a warrant for his arrest, which led to the lag time until McIntyre was jailed.

McIntyre’s agent, Brett Tessler, says his client is “guilty of absolutely nothing” and looks forward to proving the accusations false.

The player is free on $10,000 bond.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

It’s too early for ‘09 season previews, and too late for ‘08 season
reviews. What’s an nfl blog to do in the never-ending quest to overcover the
bejeezus out of the nfl? Offseason progress reports. Let’s go in alphabetical
order. Today, the nfl/teams/det/”>Detroit Lions.

The nice thing about 0-16 is that it’s pretty much impossible to screw up the
ensuing offseason. You can sign, draft, or trade for anybody you want to. What
are they going to do, make you worse than 0-16?

And the same goes for getting rid of players. No one has much leverage at the
negotiating table when the team can say, "You know, we can go 0-16 without
you just as well as we did with you." It’s the best time to be a general
manager. It’s not fair that Matt Millen never had this opportunity!

So they’ve got that going for them. But even if you throw out the
"nowhere to go but up" parameter, you’ve gotta like some of the moves
they’ve made. It doesn’t seem possible to add Julian Peterson, Larry Foote,
Grady Jackson, Anthony Henry and Phillip Buchanon to a defense and not see that
defense improve at least a little bit.

Offensively, who knows what we’ll see? The cupboard isn’t bare, though it
sometimes likes to perform as if it is. nfl/players/8256/”>Calvin Johnson’s a superstar at
receiver, and Bryant Johnson and Ronald Curry should be adequate members of his
posse. nfl/players/8841/”>Kevin Smith had a pretty damn decent second half of last year, too.

There are still, to put it mildly, big questions along the offensive line,
and the Lions will have to decide if they’re going to go with nfl/players/4659/”>Daunte Culpepper
or Matthew Stafford to start the season. But either way, it doesn’t seem like it
should be a totally inept offense, and the defense will certainly be better.

Progress: I do see a lot of progress here. As bad as the Lions were
last year, they weren’t as bad as 0-16 suggests. You don’t get there without a
little bad luck. So the forces of karma alone should be worth a couple of wins,
and all the veteran talent they’ve added should be worth a couple more.

Plus four games. 0-16 last year, 4-12 this year.

The NFL salary cap has reportedly increased for the second time this offseason, rising just under $1 million to a total $128 million. In February, the cap jumped from $123 to $127 million, just prior to free agency beginning.

The latest increase would have been held over until 2010, according to FOXSports.com, but there is currently no salary cap in place for next season, due to the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement. The CBA will be a hot topic at the league’s spring meetings in Florida, as a work stoppage is pending for the 2011 season if the league and players cannot reach a new deal.

This newest cap hike could pay dividends for teams still looking to sign free agents this offseason — especially those that were already up against the previous cap number of $128 million.

Brett Favre has signaled once again that he is contemplating a return to the NFL, this time by paying a visit to orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for an examination of his throwing arm.

Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen of ESPN are reporting that Favre consulted with Andrews to go over the options for healing Favre’s partially torn biceps tendon. Andrews apparently told Favre there were various exercises he could try, and Favre would like to sign with the Vikings if those exercises get his arm in good enough shape to play.

All indications are that Favre is feeling the itch to play in 2009 if his arm is healthy enough, but that he doesn’t want to have to go through a surgery and a long rehab process to prepare for the season. The ESPN report said Favre would prefer not to go through arthroscopic surgery and would definitely not be willing to have major shoulder reconstruction.

Favre is currently an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team, but all the speculation this off-season has focused on his desire to play with the Vikings.

Jason TaylorJason Taylor is going back home.

Taylor, the defensive end who was traded from the Dolphins to the Redskins last year, will re-sign with Miami, The Sun-Sentinel is reporting. The move comes as something of a surprise, as Taylor and Dolphins front office boss Bill Parcells were widely believed to be at odds. But whatever differences the two had, they’ve apparently found a way to bury the hatchet. ESPN is reporting that Taylor agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million deal. His contract with the Redskins would have paid him $8.5 million if he had played in Washington this season.

For the Dolphins, the acquisition of Taylor gives the team a solid veteran presence on the defense. He’s not the same Jason Taylor he was in his prime a few years ago, but he should be a solid contributor.

Redskins fans, meanwhile, have to be wondering what the team was doing sending a second-round pick to Miami to get one year of Taylor’s services. The Redskins cut Taylor during the off-season when he declined the team’s request to show up to their off-season conditioning program.

Taylor, who will turn 35 before the season, is a six-time Pro Bowler who has 120.5 career sacks, including 3.5 sacks last year for the Redskins.

Darrius Heyward-Bey was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the NFL draft for one reason: speed. The former Maryland wideout has tons of it, and while that may not be enough to justify his selection to anyone with a brain most people, it was enough for Al Davis.

Unfortunately, it appears Mr. Heyward-Bey’s speed comes with a troublesome side effect: injury. That’s right, DHB messed up his hamstring and sat out the final day of minicamp because he was “running too fast.”

“Just tightened up,” Heyward-Bey said. “My legs are a little too tight. Running too fast.”

[...]“It’s the toughest transition for the rookies with all the running we do,” head coach Tom Cable said. “You just want to be smart with them. It’s precautionary.”

Now, it’s probably not that big a deal that Heyward-Bey is taking some time off. After all, the Raiders would prefer that he be healthy above all else, certainly when we’re talking about minicamp. But if there’s one thing that the rookie wide receiver does really, really well, it’s running really, really fast.

So when his hamstring is suddenly bothered by that particular exercise, it should probably be a touch disconcerting for Davis and anyone who has attempted to illogically justify DHB’s selection above Michael Crabtree or Jeremy Maclin. It could also, I suppose, simply be referred to as par for the course.

Hopefully for the Falcons, this will all be forgotten in two weeks, but first-round pick Peria Jerry injured his knee during Saturday morning’s minicamp practice.

Jerry bumped knees with another player, then left the field under his own power. Trainers were taking a look at his knee and giving him some ice, they should know if it’s a problem or, more likely, no big deal by the end of the day.

It’s most likely just a bruise, but you have to get nervous anytime a player limps off during minicamp — already the Patriots have lost one of their draft picks for the season with a torn ACL. If Jerry misses a couple of run-throughs while icing the knee, it’s no big deal — he’s still around the team and is already starting to digest the playbook, but the Falcons can’t have Jerry out with a significant injury — he’s too important to a very thin group of defensive tackles.

Javon WalkerOakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker had knee surgery last month. No surprise there; hundreds of NFL players have surgery each offseason. But here’s the odd twist: Walker didn’t inform the Raiders that he was having the procedure.

It’s not completely clear what is wrong with Walker’s right knee — the same knee he injured in 2007 — but it’s serious enough that he isn’t able to participate in this weekend’s minicamp and won’t be ready to go until training camp starts in July. And whatever is wrong with the knee, it’s particularly odd that Walker apparently didn’t bother to tell the Raiders until a few weeks after the operation.

Still, Raiders coach Tom Cable tells the San Francisco Chronicle that he thinks Walker did the right thing by getting the surgery — just not by declining to tell the team about it:

“We just found out about it,” Cable said. “Yeah, it is a little bit uncommon but we’re aware of it now and it was probably the right thing to do and get it cleaned up.”

Walker signed a six-year, $55 million contract with the Raiders last off-season, but he may have trouble just making the team this season, especially after the Raiders spent a first-round draft pick on another wide receiver, Darrius Heyward-Bey. Sitting out minicamp after a secret surgery isn’t exactly the best way for Walker to start making a case that he deserves a roster spot.
